⭐️Welcome to Guest Reports!⭐️
Today we’re talking to author of newsletter Reasons Not to Quit, Hanne Blank Boyd. Her newsletter is an excellent resource and read for both writers and non-writers.
Alright, alright I’ll let Hanne speak! 👇🏻
Hi, I’m Hanne.
I'm a writer, editor, and book coach/writing mentor who grew up in Ohio and currently lives in a small town on a river delta in the South. I write books about things that make a lot of people uncomfortable, such as virginity, fat, and heterosexuals. I also write a Substack called Reasons Not To Quit.
R: Reading
Right now, I’m reading Henry James' account of traveling by motorflight through France with Edith and Teddy Wharton. A history of Portugal. Several clients' manuscripts, including one about Cambodian genocide survivors running a donut shop in L.A.
E: Eating
An actual bread bakery has opened in my 4000-person town.
They make a good sourdough and wow, I sure hope they survive because good bread is hard to come by here and my household isn't big enough for me to keep up with a sourdough starter any more.
P: Playing
The last 48 hours it's been Jon Batiste, Bela Fleck, and this glorious young Spanish guitarist named Anabel Montesinos.
O: Obsessing
I am sewing several dresses and a jacket for my spring/summer wardrobe and I am obsessing over garment linings, welt pockets, and tailoring.
⭐️ Editor/Anna note: As someone who studied design in college, I commend anyone who willingly sews, its time consuming and takes an unreal level of patience and skill. Two things I simply do not have. Kudos, Hanne!
R: Recommending
My spouse bought me a heated mattress pad for my birthday and all I have to say is that I have seen the future, and it is warm.
T: Treating
Midori MD dot grid notebooks. Schadenfreude. The ridiculously addictive videos on ParisianVibe's YouTube channel where impossibly stylish women detail the complete contents of their handbags.
Parting Thoughts!
I not-so-secretly believe that some of the best things come from Ohio, even though I had to leave because the gray drear of the winters is enough to make an archangel molt.
Until next time!
Excited to listen to all of the music recs tomorrow!
